Mock IPO
Given the financial liberalisation and globalisation, the growing linkage between the financial and real sector has meant that resource mobilisation via the financial markets is imperative for India or indeed any country’s growth. We bring this event in the light of stories of initial public offerings of companies whether they be private like Alibaba or state owned giants like Coal India Limited. There is no denying the importance of IPOs in financing of industrial needs.
The event aims to allow participants: whether budding policymakers or corporate heads, to understand the dynamics of a public offering and the perils and intricacies associated with raising capital in a volatile market scenario as is the world order today.
Participating teams work to analyse various sectors and evaluate performances of firms operating in fields such as textiles, food processing, power , steel or IT- all of which form the foundation of India’s imminent development in the future.
Their purpose is to analyse the prospects of growth for their respective firms and attract investment (both domestic and foreign) to allow these firms, pioneers of their industries, to further India’s development goals.
The aim is to achieve equity and efficiency by enhancing prospects of these industries to go public by supporting them during Initial Public Offer: The process of going public.
Participants per Team: 2-3
Round 1: (Online Round)
Each participating team acts as a facilitator of growth and development of its industry. They will have to evaluate the growth paths of their firm and trace out a plan for holistic development for the management committee, in form of a working paper to attract investors
Round 2: (Online submission of report and On-campus presentations)
The shortlisted teams will now be appointed to draft a proposal for its firm and approach various stakeholders (we hope to have some participants as investors) of the production and distribution process to achieve the path they traced in Round . This will be an elimination round.
Round 3: (On-campus)
The teams will meet the management committees and investors- institutional, private etc and indulge in a healthy exchange of ideas and review the performance of the entire exercise. The focus on will be on analysing their company and product’s strengths and weaknesses, preparation against volatilities in the market and investor confidence. Each team will then be expected to give a short presentation covering their findings and recommendations.
